HALON and Other Halocarbons used in Fire-Extinguishing Systems the regulatory situation and ensuring your due diligence Info Session Wed Nov 18th, 2009 8:30 am – 12:30 (approx.) Location : Downtown Vancouver, BC Environment Canada invites you to attend an information session on the Federal Halocarbon Regulations, 2003 (FHR 2003) as well as the BC Ozone-depleting Substances and other Halocarbon Regulation. The purpose of the these regulations are to reduce and prevent emissions of ozone-depleting substances and their halocarbon alternatives (includes HFCs [includes FM-200], Halons, CFCs, HCFCs, and other substances). The Regulations apply to fire-extinguishing systems, as well as air-conditioning and refrigeration and solvent systems, that contain or are intended to contain halocarbons. The regulations have provisions for servicing, installing, leak-testing, charging and disposing of halon and other regulated halocarbon systems [includes FM-200].  It also contains requirements for reporting releases, record keeping and obtaining permits (i.e. permits for the charging and installation of systems using certain halocarbons). Information Session Objective: This information session is designed to provide you with: • clarification on the current and upcoming prohibitions; • an understanding of pertinent sections of the ULC Standards for Servicing Halon and Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems and Halon and Halocarbon Clean Agent Recovery and Reconditioning Equipment; and • the tools to comply with the Regulations as they relate to your facilities. Who Should Attend? • Environmental coordinators, facility maintenance &  supervisory staff at facilities which have equipment/systems subject to the regulations. • Fire protection contractors, consultants & service technicians working on equipment/systems subject to the regulations. • This information should be circulated to other staff in your organization that may have responsibilities in managing ozone-depleting substances and certain global warming substances.
